Hard Days Work

Applesauce... a huge part of our winter diet. I didn't have a bumper crop this year on the tree... so we only have a 15 quarts so far. I am putting up on Freecycle for more. I am sure someone has a tree around here I can pick for some applesauce. On the left, strawberry applesauce, on the right, just plain. The baby has eaten it for three days... I think I need to vary his diet. But he LOVES the stuff... and I love him loving it.

After canning for two days strait, I needed a break. I put all the canning stuff in the garage and Logan and I sat and read Blueberries for Sal from the library. I love that book.

how do you make applesauce? I know nothing about canning. I didn't come from a very domestic background, but I feel a little domestic gene nagging at me. ;)

We have three apple trees on our new little (old) farmette. Share your recipe, please! Somewhere, somehow, in our move, I lost my Ball's Blue Book of canning!!!
Do you use a Victoria Strainer?

You guys are wonderful!

That link I posted for Terri is for you all... it shows exactly how I make my applesauce every year. I hardly ever use sugar. I did last year with the cherry, but haven't made cherry this year. I did get a bite on my freecycle to get more apples and pears. YAY! I have to go pick them up on Thursday. :)

Oh, for those non-canners, you can easily freeze this. It is not quite as quick, but still really good and yummy and organic and all that. ;) Try it! Even if you just make one big batch and eat it all, you won't be sorry. :)

Kate... yep. I have about 7 lbs to go, and it is all my own fault I still have that. Logan is an avid breastfeeder, and nurses around the clock. I gained 50lbs though... so I think I am doing ok with the 7 I have left. ;)

Val, that applesauce looks delicious! My grandma used to make applesauce when I was a kid. There is nothing better than homemade applesauce! I may need to head to the local orchard now! :)

I was fighting that primal urge to can this year...but this totally blew that out of the water! I wonder what I can find on freecycle around here...
Thank you Val=)

My boys love homemade applesauce, which I haven't even started because I have been so sick! Next weekend will be full of apples, jars and the Squeez-o...

I love that picture of you and Logan... :)
